darne shotguns
I've always wanted one ..so I'm wondering if any of you guys have one and what you think of it? are they worth what people are asking when they try to sell them..any info or comments are welcome..the thing is before I was old enough to have a hunting license my dad would only let me shoot a old mod. 24 winchester had 3in. sawed off the barrels and he gave 5 dollars for it. so now if I try to shoot a semi or a pump I would rather just watch, but now side by sides are the in thing and the prices show it

darnes are nice guns. takes a little getting use to on cocking it. watch for cracked stocks.

Darnes are interesting guns. I have 2, both are 16 ga Halifax models. I would discribe the Halifax model as Darne's basic field grade model. One is a one piece stock and one is a two piece stock. Both are WW II bring backs and have German (NAZI) re-proof markings. Both were originally made for 65mm shells and modified for 70mm shells when re-proofed. I have used the two piece stocked Darne for upland bird hunting. It is very light and handles nicely. The LOP is too short for me , so I use a leather slip on butt pad that increases the LOP almost 2 inches. It is an attention getter and conversation starter because the action is quite unique. I am surprised by the number of folks that have never seen one.
The down side, at least with the older models, is that parts are not readily interchangible. There must have been a lot of hand fitting on these. I found a replacement barrel years ago, but there are enough differences that it will take a gunsmith to get it to fit one of the shotguns. The slide is not interchangible either. I don't have any experience with the newer versions but other than rather weak stocks, I think the Darne's are fine shotguns.0
