    Great looking rifle with the glare on photos Hard to tell it looks original from what I can see . But if it is original I think it would have more bids . The seller is correct in 95% BUT he does not state it is Original finish at 95%. I would ask him and also would want to know if 3 day period to return applies.

    Not a Winchester: Plainly listed as "Ballard - 1885 High Wall" which is a new made rifle from the Ballard Rifle Co on the Winchester design.

    If a Win 85 it's refinished. The purple cast to the receiver and the washed out upper and lower tang holes clinch it.
    Barrel flats are a little too sharp.
    It's beautiful nevertheless but not a caliber I could get interested in.
    The SST is a ++.

    I would say re-blue.

    Pic #3 with the purple hue makes me think so.

    Why is everyone ignoring this post? I think Hawk is correct... also listed under:

    Can't it be a newly manufactured Ballard rifle???

    I was not ignoring this post... I was in Reno all weekend for the gunshow.

    As Hawk stated, it is a modern Ballard Rifle Co. made rifle, and it has original finish on it.

    All of the original Winchester Model 1885 high-wall .405 W.C.F. rifles (fewer than 100 were made) have a round No. 3-1/2 (nickel steel) barrel.
