Fixed power or Variable power
Which type scope will handle the most recoil? I was going to put the scope on a 30-30 Winchester 94. I have both a Simmons 8 point fixed and variable power scope.

Either should be OK on the '94, but as there are far fewer moving parts in a fixed scope, the reliability factor will likely be evidenced in the fixed power. 0 -
Recoil of a 30-30 is pretty light in relation to other rifles. All other things being equal, I think a fixed will be brighter (less internal glass to suck up light) and will be more reliable (fewer moving bits to get out of order).
FWIW, most hunters that buy a variable power scope wind up leaving it on one setting. With a 30-30, you realy have no need for a huge scope- a vanilla 4x 40 mm should fill the bill for deer hunting.0
