Trap Guns
I have a berretta 391 trap gun it shoot's flat. I have a 870 TC trap Gun it shoot's 3inch's high. Question why do some gun's shoot flat and others shoot high,I thought trap gun's had to shoot high because of the rise in the bird comming out of the trap house.

I'd be carefull about the mossburg. A friend of mine has one; he has to mount it "just so" on the clays range or he gets failures to fire. I've even seen it double on him. I don't understand why he dosen't sent it back for warranty work, but hey it's his gun. 0 -
The Mossberg is junk, sorry if anyone is offended. 0 -

I have read a lot of bad reviews on the mossberg. Think I am going to stay away. I just came across a Browning Upland Special that a friend of a friend has for sale. 12ga, 26" and he said its an older (20yrs) Very clean gun. He is looking to get around 900.. Going to do some research and see if its a decent gun for trap. and input would be appreciated.0 -
A trap gun is a trap gun.
A gun specialized for regulation ATA trap will have relatively long barrel(s) to point out the rapidly departing targets, and a close choke to break them. It will have a high stock comb to elevate your eye so as to build in some upward lead; because with good timing you will be shooting while the bird is still rising in its trajectory out of the traphouse.
You could have fun with a 26" field grade but you would be at something of a disadvantage versus a proper trap gun.
I read all the time on the internet about beginners beating the class AA Krieghoff shooters with Mossberg Turkey guns but I don't see it on the range.0 -
$900 for a used Browning 12ga Upland Special with a 26 inch barrel seems way overpriced to me. Plus, most folks would want one with the 22 inch barrel. They point really quickly in heavy brush on grouse and quail. The 26 inch barrel might work better on a trap range than a 22 inch barrel, of course, but I would think one would be more comfortable with a pistol grip stock with high comb versus the straight english style stock that comes with the Upland Special if trying to shoot trap with it. I have a really nice trap gun that fits me like a glove. Still I suck at trap shooting 0 -
Find one you like and start shooting .
I shoot a L/H Rem. 870 trap model with 30 in. barrel ,but my Browning BPS with 22 in. barrel has run many straights !
It's not the gun as much as the trigger puller .[;)]0 -
find an 1100 or 870 TRAP model which will have the proper stock & choke. You can find a nice SKB O/U for probably 750 or so made for trap . Great starter guns and many experts still use them. Our top shooter in our club of 100 shooters uses and skb 880 , averages over 24 from the 16 yd and 23 from the 27yd line 0
