new .17 HMR scope
I just bought a .17 HMR and I am needing a silver scope for it that will be good for up to 300 yards. And I need to get it for around $100-$150.

Cabelas.com is selling Nikon Pro Staff scope, 3X9X50 for 150, they also have 4X12's for around the same price... And I dont even have to mention the great quality of Nikons products. lol 0 -
I will say at minimum, a Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster, with a Mil-Dot reticle. It might be a little spendy, and for sure is going to require some experimentation for correction versus the trajectory at the latter range which you state. However, for getting out to that 300 yard mark, you don't want anything less for quality of glass. Actually, the 300 yard mark might be a little much to ask of the 17 HMR on any day, but especially a windy day.

EDIT 1:
If you need to get it for the $100-150.00 price range, you may want to look at the new Redfield line, or the Weaver line up. You will be hard pressed to get anything decent in that price range, unless it is a good used one.

Agree with tsr1965, the 17 HMR isn't a 300 yard cartridge. If you want 300 yards I would suggest using a 223 Rem. 0 -
My Savage came with a 3-9x Bushnell. Seems to work just fine. Ask the squirrels. Ain't a 300 yard cartridge through. 0 -
Beating a dead horse, but I work on a 300 yard rifle range and NOOOO, the 17 HMR is NOT a 300 yd. cartridge. They do fine on a windless day out to 200, but that little 17 cal pill just wont hold a decent group at 300. A guy who shoots my range loves the 17 HMR and spent about 1500 bucks on a Savage and really nice glass in addition to the custom work...his will hold under an inch at 200 on a windless day. On the same day, those groups go to about 5 inches at 300. Can't handload the stuff, so consistancy in the ammo is a big question mark.
In the $150 tops range? I would go no higher than 16x magnification and the Weaver line is as good as anything out there in that range. The new Redfields are made by Leupold, so I would look at those too.0
