Winchester Angle Ecect
Hello Ya'll I bought a Winchester angle eject in 44-40 from the original owner. He said he fired less than twelve rounds in the gun. When you close the lever all the way and shake the gun real good. The lever and the action will fall open about half way. I understand you have to hold the lever tight against the pin on the bottom in order to fire the rifle. Is this normal or do i need to get this fixed? Thank you.

Typical. "Eject" 0 -
You definately have an issue. The depression pin, as you know, is to insure the lever/bolt is in battery, but there is a spring that holds the rather heavy lever up, just short of battery. Sounds like your spring is worn/broken (a little hard to believe in a gun supposedly fired a dozen times...didn't just fall of THAT turnip truck) and is unable to overcome gravity to hold the gun in pre-battery/safe position. You should never have to hold the lever up AND depress the plunger...too much happening that depends upon proper "technique" and motor skills. The spring in question is supposed to just barely overcome gravity to hold the lever up in place, not close the lever and risk depressing the safety plunger under the lever. I would look at the schematics on Numrich Gun Parts website and see the part of which I speak. 0 -
Sounds to me like someone "slicked" it up for CAS. Did you buy it from someone who was into the SASS type shooting matches?
That caliber is most commonly seen in that venue. Just wondering.
Does this happen even with a round in the chamber or just with it empty? Normal function is like you say, the lever should be held up against the bottom of the stock to engage the release. This should not hamper functioning as long as you are not carrying it around much or this happens with a loaded chamber.
