Remington cartridge headstamps
Curious as to when Remington switched from REM-UMC to R-P. Around 1958, I was given, for Christmas, a box of .30/06 cartridges with the REM-UMC headstamp and around 1962 I bought a Win. 70 in .243 along with 2 sealed boxes of new brass that had the R-P stamp. Of course, the '06 stuff could have been old stock.

Hi,
Remington still uses the REM-UMC head stamp on certain brands of its ammunition.
If you are referring to a specific box designs then the box design needs to be described (preferably photographed) as there will be a gradual evolution of design that some collectors will be able to relate to certain dates.
As for corporate history, E. Remington was in business from 1870 to 1890. E. Remington then became just Remington in 1890 to 1911 then merged with UMC (Union Metallic Company) to become REM-UMC from 1911 to 1934. In 1934, DuPont bought out REM-UMC and Peters to form Remington Arms Company as it is today.
Maybe someone else can add something to the discussion.
Best wishes,
