Colt auto 25 Help
I have a Colt Auto 25 Nickel finish w black plastic grips. My question is this...Are all Colt Auto 25's a 1908 hammerless Vest Pocket model. The only markings on the gun are COLT AUTO 25. I will try to post pics

Real Colts, yes.
There are the much later Spanish knockoffs imported here with Colt's name on them but they are recognizeable by the exposed hammers.0 -
made in 1910 Nice but We will need some little better close-ups to tell if original finish or aftermarket refinished [:)][^]
EDIT OK original finish would be plated after the pistol was polished and all surfaces would be flat and smooth . Aftermarket would be if original finish was blue or maybe nickle but due to age may gave gotten rusted or pitted then when refinisher polished off the rust or pits they did not get all pits or scratches smoothed out. they REPLATE the gun the finish is nice and shiny but you can still see scratches or very minor pits . The replating will not Hide scratches . in your 2 pictures one side looks refinished and the other side look original the grips are worn most likely from use and I would expect wear on the finish to match. IF original . However grips are softer then metal . So big [?][?][?]that is why people like to look at item in person only really great quality pictures come close to showing us if original. It is much easier to prove refinish then it is to prove original finish . Refinish gun 50% of value of original and maybe only 25% value. Very chancy without having gun in ones hands.
EDIT IIThe Top picture looks to have a scratch just below the extractor over toward but not touching the letter C and thn below that were the trigger pivot pin is visible It looks like 3 pinprick size pits. if the gun was factory finish then the plating would be very thin and this scratch and pin prickpits would go throught the plating & be down to bare metal . However if the gun was either scratched or had these very small dents/pin prick imperfections and then plated at a later date then the plated look would go to the bottom of the scratch, dent, pin prick .This is why it really needs to be studied up close with magnifying glass. Do these imperfections HURT the gun [?]NO. But it is a tell tale sign that the gun was refinished . And if I see what I think I see this will REALLY hurt the value. Again I may be wrong or the pictures them self may be at fault. But this is my Opinion others may feel different. It is a NICE shooter my suggestion is keep and enjoy it.0 -
after market refinish????? how can you tell? 0 -
Normally the screw heads were done fire blue, not chromed with the rest. Everything on that gun is chrome...a bit suspect, although the markings look sharp. There are also a few specks in the slide that look as though they could be chromed over pitting.
EDIT 1: OK Bill...chrome, Nickel, whatever. Frankly I think they all look pimpy.0 -
There is no chrome on that gun. 0 -
to my knowledge nothing has been done to this gun, my father has had it for quite some years now and before that I believe a friend of his had it so I am going to guess it is all original. If there was some easy tell tale sign that I can look for other than the ones already stated, please let me know. There is no pitting on this gun to my knowledge either, it all looks uniform finish even though the pics may not look like it 0 -
Looks to be in good shape for that model. Never saw one in nickle befor looks nice. 0
