Remington Model 1903
I thought I understood that Springfield made the first model 1903, later modified it with the 03A3, which was copied by other manufacturers including Remington. I have two Remingtons, one 03 and one 03A3. Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the two models.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Check the barrel dates. Actual '03's were made at Springfield and Rock Island...our federal arsenals. There were several 03A3 makers to include Remington, but they never made any originals. If you have one marked such, I would like to see pictures, and give you a few hundred bucks for it![:D] What is the barrel date behind the front sight? 0 -
Actually, Remington did make the 1903 rifle using the Rock Island Arsenal tooling; the initial delivery began November, 1941. Throughout the next several years, production by Remington with new tooling morphed into the Model 1903 (modified), & finally became the Model 1903A3 (& sniper rifle Model 1903A4).
The other WW2 prime contractor (of the Model 1903A3 only) was Smith Corona, the typewriter company.
Obviously, value & collectibility vary, depending upon the originality & completeness of your rifles. Feel free to post photos.
