Why would a manufacture leave marks on a forging die that would have to be removed later?

That was the start of the industrial revolution, and mass production era. That is when the avid craftsman, got hooked into the bean counter.

The manufacturer DIDN'T leave the marks there. They appear after the passage of time. This is quite common in any forged part. They are the result of residual stress that works itself out over time. 0
