First we must confirm the name. I have listings for guns with the name THE LEADER, LEADER, LEADER GUN CO and C.F. LEADER. Correspondents have a habit of shorting the name. In any case, all are what is known as a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker (and before 1940) usually for and sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. Gun with the name of just LEADER were made by the Shattuck Arms Company while the other three were all made by the Crescent Fire Arms Company. Sorry but no information as to who sold the gun Caution! These old guns were designed and made using the technology and metallurgy of the times and for the ammunition in use back then. They may have damascus barrels chambered for 2 1/2 inch shells loaded with black powder or maybe, just maybe very early low pressure smokeless powder and lead shot. The were not designed for more modern high pressure smokeless powder loaded lead shot 3 inch or magnum shells or steel shot. My advice is don't attempt to shoot the gun. Value? Value will depend on the guns condition, the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood as well as the mechanical condition. Values can range as high as $150 for a prime condition example to less than $10 for a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fi only for a fire place poker.
