marlin mx .308 vs springfield .30-06
I have a Marlin MX lever action .308 that shoots a 160 grain Hornady Lever Evolution ballistic tip, and I was wondering how that particular .308 cartridge compares to a Springfield .30-06 cartridge.

Hornady has ballistics data on their products.

The 308 MX 160gr-2658fps to 2459fps. The 30-06 165gr-2938fps to 2728fps. Take a look at the Hodgdon website, they list reloading data for both, using a 24" barrel for each. The difference in velocity is due to reloading with different powder within the calibers. For factory ammo, the box should tell you the velocity. Note that for reloader, Hodgdon has a new powder coming out in Jan. to match the Hornady loading. Check under new products for load data. 0 -
I was always told to look at it like a slightly souped up .300 savage 0 -

I'm not so sure that the 300 Savage does not have it over the 308 Marlin Express...all things being equal, so take away the Hornady factory loads, and there you have it.0
