300 OSSM(Olympic Super Short Magnum)
OK, who knows what, or has any experience with this beast? I have yet to see any gun rag testing on it, but do understand that this hot little number, is supposed to better 30-06 performance with bullets up to 150 grain, and possibly 165 grain. Also, it can be had on the AR-15, yes that is right the AR-15 platform.
Who knows anything?
Best
EDIT 1:
sandwarrior,
As far as I know the 30 cal WSSM is still a wildcat, but the 300 OSSM
is a factory offering, so to speak. The two have different shoulder angles. Neither as far as I know have the SAAMI stamp on them. HSM, from what I understand is loading the 300 OSSM. I had a talk with gentleman, who is wildcatting the snot out of the WSSM on the AR-15 platform, and has a 358 version that is trimmed back enough to meet the requirements for the Indiana rifle season. Says it delivers better performance than the 358 Winchester. Check it out at the link below. He will also chamber for the 300 OSSM.
I also talked by e-mail with another friend of ours, and of course he is on top of this too.

WSSM case necked up to .308. Great round, IMO. The case/neck ratio is not so oversize as compared to the original calibers for that case.
The big problem of course is you can't put high BC bullets in one in an AR-15 platform. But, you can launch the standard lower weight bullets for .30 cal at about the same speeds as you can a .308-30.06. Again, out of a AR-15 platform.
As far as I know it's still a wildcat. But, I was told, Oly will chamber this for you if you want. That means buying the entire upper though, as I understand it. Too many proprietary things to trust that someone will put all the right parts on it.
Edit:
Sounds like the project has moved forward then. Which is good. Do you know if they increased or decreased the shoulder angle and for what stated purpose? I can't help but think the bigger the bullet (dia.) that goes into that case the better. The "short/fat" idea only works so far. There has to be an appropriate relationship between case size (width in this case.) and bullet diameter. With the original WSSM's it's kind of like "all that pressure and nowhere to go with it."0
