Saiga 12 cycling problems!
I have a Saiga 12 and I am struggling in finding a way to cycle low brass loads. I have put a Gunfixers improved gas plug on it and it seemed to help a little bit but it is far from reliable. I was contemplating buying a accelerator piston to maybe fix it but im not sure. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Brass height has little to do with shot shell power these days.
What weight load are you running? Very few if any semi auto shotguns will run on 1oz or less loads. For the Saiga you NEED 1 1/8 oz loads.
What kind of cycling problems are you having?0 -
To be Honest... Saigas are junk and you will have nothing but trouble with it, even after you fix your current issue.
A buddy of mine bought one brand new and had nothing but problems with it. It wouldn't cycle slugs, then he couldn't get it to cycle if more than 7 rounds were in the 10 round clip, it started jamming up on him after the first box of target loads, then the action jammed open completely. This was all in the first 2 months of owning it after buying it NEW. And not much more than 2 boxes of shels were put through it.
He ended up having to send it back to the manufacturer to get them to fix it. As soon as he got it back, he sold it off at a $150 loss.0 -
Slugs and other heavy loads always have cycled great, but i was having problems with low brass loads. I had some problems with an 1 1/8oz shot loads but i just tried a different brand of 1 1/8oz shot and it seems to be running good even with aftermarket mags and drum. 0 -

It is possible your friend was one of the unlucky ones that got a "vodka special", where the gas ports are not properly aligned in the gas block. I would also recommend the gunfixers improved gas plug because it has more settings allowing for lighter loads0 -
Well whatever the issue was with his, it is not his problem anymore. 0 -

I had a bad bottle of Pepsi once. It was junk so ALL Pepsi is bad. The sent me a new bottle but instead of even trying it I gave it away KNOWING (of course never trying it) it was bad despite 99% of them being good [V]
I love it on gun boards where a person out of thousands or 10's of thousands of people have great items but then one guy happens to have a problem (it happens no matter what the problem is) and they ALL suddenly become junk even after the company tries to make it right.
Sorry to get off topic. Back to the OP. They only "problems" I have had with mine were running 1oz light loads. I say "problem" because that is ammo that is not recommended for that gun so it is not the guns fault. I have shot tons of the Remington Light Field loads in 1 1/8oz loads with no problems.
Again what kind of problems are you having? Will it not eject the shell? Will it partially eject the shell? Will it eject the shell completely but not pick up the next round? Does it pick up the next round but jamb into the feed ramp or mag? Different problems have different causes.0 -
It was having problems with the empty getting caught. I just experimented with a few different brands of ammunition and Im having luck now 0 -
The guns were never designed to run on the cheap garbage some of you insist on running in them.
It kills me when some guy will spend 1200 bucks here having the gas system shortened, PG installed, all the conversion work and refinishing and SBS'ing it, etc...etc... and then 6 mos after he picks it up call and complain that the gun won't cycle the cheapest Wal-Mart crap they can find.
Kinda like buying a Sig 550 and then carrying on that it won't run on Wolf.0 -
Even though I agree with the Pepsi bottle comparison above, to an extent. The principle is correct, but a 99 cent bottle of pepsi does not compare to a nearly $600 gun. If you spend that much and have nothing but trouble... it kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth. And it is not the taste of Pepsi. 0 -
