Had a Taurus PT92 many years ago. It was sent back to the factory twice and was never right. Would not print on a 12 X 12 target at 25 yards. Got rid of it.

XD's are quality firearms. I currently have an XD-40 Tactical. It has been 100% reliable and is quite accurate.

    K-tech,

Hello, and welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.com.

Almost everything with the Taurus label is suspect to being JUNK in my opinion. The XD's have a good following, and are close to being in the same spotlight the Glock's are. They are a quality pistol, that is made in Crotia, while the Taurus is made in Brazil. My vote goes XD.

The Springfield is a much superior firearm to the Taurus. I've had several of each and I carry a Springfield XD .40.

I have a Taurus 99 that I bought used 15 years ago for $250. I have used it for IPSC and IDPA competition for years. It has over 35,000 rounds thru it. Very reliable and accurate. I own 9mm Brownings, SIGs, H&Ks, Berettas, and Colts. The 99 is my favorite.

Another vote for the XD's. Seen lots of both at my range over the years and hear a lot more swearing associated with the Taurus guns than I do the XD's.

The PT92 is probably the only Taurus auto I'd give serious consideration to getting, as its their oldest design and originally built on actual Beretta tooling.

I think you should at least consider that the two guns are totally different in terms of feel and action type.

The Taurus you mention is all metal (alloy frame) and traditional double/single action with an external safety.

The Springfield is polymer, and striker fired with no external safety.

So apart from Taurus quality control issues mentioned above, the two guns have totally different operations and feels. If you have big hands, or like an external safety, the Taurus may be better. If you like a lighter gun, and/or dislike an external safety, the XD would be better.

Which is "better"? That's entirely subjective, though I think its fair to say that right now the Springfield enjoys the better reputation.
