How big is your barn? I would sell it too.

For the price of the Ruger, you could find you a real nice milled reciever AK-47, like the SLR-95. Most likely as accurate as the Ruger, and more reliable.

I must have the only accurate dependable mini-14 made by Ruger. Mine is in 223. I bought it before the ranch rifle came out so I installed a B Square mount in order to scope it with a nice K-4. I reload for it and it likes just about anything I put through it. No, it isn't an x ring target rifle but any coyote or cat under 250 yards is done for, crows under 200. For just a plinker, the 223 is a lot cheaper to reload than the 30. My opinion. Eddie

If I could find a nice SKS-D I would totally go for it.. I've shot quite a few AK's, I'm not a huge fan of them. I know they're reliable as hell, but I would like something different.. I'm really debating just saving up for an M1A..

Since you are already familiar with the AR-15 platform, I would go for the AR-10 platform then...Like the DPMS LR308.

    Best

Ditto on the AR-10 and pick up used mini's in both calibers. Also shop for 308 ammo and keep saving for the M1A1. Have to have 2 guns per caliber [:D]

    >>>This is going to be for plinking nothing more really,<<<

I'd go for the lighter recoiling Mini-14 if cost of ammo isn't a concern; if cost is a significant consideration, the 7.62x39 has been cheaper than 223 for a long time.

You can buy the steel-cased imported .223, but I'm assuming you want to be able to use the ammo you already have, or don't want to be "stocking" ammo for the Mini-14 and separate ammo for the AR.

Mini 30 could be used for hunting animals up to deer size. 7.62 x 39 is pretty similar to 30/30

You don't have the only one. I have two myself.[:)]

As to the original question. I'd go with the 14 because high cap mags are easier to come by, and yes you can get good after market mags that actually function and cost a lot less than the factory ones.
