Remove old gold plating
Merry Christmas everyone. My question is how do I remove gold plating that is starting to flake from a stainless steel cylinder without scarring the cylinder? Thanks folks

I would need more information, Is the plating in engraving? or is it on the entire cylinder. Pictures would also help. 0 -
IS this true gold plating or Bonanza witch was a product sold to fill in writing ETC on firearms. If bonanza gold you can use acetone and tooth brush just don't get on grips or any painted or plastic surface.EDIT
Damn I should read what I type . I Forgot you Yankee boys use plastic Teeth brushes we use wooden handle brass bristled tooth brush for our one tooth[:o)] and that is also what you should use when you use acetone.to remove Bonanza gold. MY BAD [:I]0 -
The easiest way is to abrade the surface the same way the cylinder was polished. Most gold plating is very soft. Very rarely you will see KaratKlad plating on guns. It is much harder than regular gold plating. 0 -
A lot of plating is flashed with copper first. If its red underneeth a long soak in Hoppies will disolve that copper. Oh and Merry christmas to everyone. 0 -
