30/06 to 308
hello;
what issues are there converting a remington model 700 30/06 to 308win. have a custom barrel chambered in 308win for the conversion.
is there any real problems feeding 308win in a rifle designed for 30/06? cost of installing the 308win barrel is not an issue. thanks for any input.

Hello rp85,
I suspect that you might run up against some feeding problems. Usually the magazine wells are shorter in the 308, as the 308 is a shorter action. I think you will have to modify the action rails for feeding, and/or the magazine well itself.

I have converted a few K98k 8MM (7.92X57) Mausers to 308 and the same suggestion of feed problems has never occurred in mine.
However, I am going from a 57MM to 51MM whereas you are going from a 63MM to a 51MM case.
I suggest you call Remington and ask their advise.
Note, the US Marine Corps uses the short action in their Remington snipers but the army has always used the longer action M24 in their 308 snipers. I do not know if they modify the magazine well or not but Remington may be able to answer that question

rem. uses a "magazine spacer" in some of their rifles, I'd try this first. 0
