1903 Colt question
Hello,
I have a 1903 Colt, it fires fine but i am concerned out the slide/frame fit. The slide has quite a bit of play between the frame. It doesn't seem unsafe, just a sloppyish fit. Anyone know if this is a concern? I plan to fire it more in the future and use it as a cary piece for awhile.
Thanks

Semi auto pistols have to have some SLIGHT space between parts like slide and frame to allow the slide to fully cycle. With that said we would be remiss to state your pistol is safe to shoot without inspecting the pistol . If you question the safety of shooting your pistol take to a GOOD PISTOL-SMITH and ask him to check it out. 0 -
There are 4 different types of 1903's. You might want to show us photos of your gun, including serial number, barrel, & barrel bushing.

i guess it depends on what you consider a loose fit.
typically the 1903 hammerless was made to pretty tight tolerances.
that said, they've been shot for 100 years with basic maintenance and the occasional spring set replacement (wolf makes 'em). so chances are, you gun is fine.
if the slide doesn't rattle on the frame, i'd be comfortable shooting it.
if need be, a "old school" smith can refit the slide and frame railes
just my 2c
neal's is the gloss blue version. they also made a satin/matte finish. like this:
