Win 94 flat band question
I am currently reading the book "Winchester Model 94" Second Edition by Robert C. Renneberg (very good book btw). On page 39 he mentionned on the second paragraph of the photo caption (lower tang differences) "...is the version found intermittently throughout the early part of the flat band series-without a strain screw." I just checked my flat band and mine does not have the strain screw. I would like to know if these flat band are more common than the "regular" ones? My gun is not in very good condition so the value is affected I ask this just by curiousity. Here are some pics of my flat band.

Hello Buster,
I have no information on the strain screw (other than what Bob has in his books). That said, I am very familar with the Flat-band (FB) Model 94 variant. Contrary to popular belief (and information published by a number of authors), the FB Model 94 was not a product of WW II. The first FB was manufactured several months into the year 1946 (my best estimate is May of 1946). The FB was produced into late 1948 (approximately October), with a total estimated prodcution of 140,000 guns. They are neither rare, or more common.
I have an on going survey documenting them, and would like to know what the serial number on you FB is. Please refer to the Sticky Post on the top of the Forum.0 -
