Winchester Model 12 Value????
I have an opportunity to buy a Winchester Model 12 Pump Shotgun. It is a 12 gauge, 26" barrel, full choke, serial #374XXX. From what I could find, it was manufactured in 1924 and the guy also told me that it has a nickel steel barrel that was only manufactured for 2 years, 1923 & 1924. The bore is smooth with no pitting, the stock still looks pretty clean and I'd say that the bluing is original and is about 85 to 90%.
I'd only be buying it to resell, as I don't collect these. Completely out of my line of interest, but I can use it to resell or trade for what I do collect....i.e., WW2 German handguns. What's a fair market price for this?? I hope I supplied enough info for an answer.
Thanx,
Tim
PS- Maybe I am wrong and it is not a full choke. I know zippo about shotguns. It looks all original and unmessed with.

Yes, IIRC winchester started making some 26" full chokes in 1914. I have a 16 ga. with 26" full.0 -
as a shooter, $350- 450, around here. 0 -
Drop a dime in the top of the barrel and let us know if it goes in. Then see if it has a solid rib or checkering, without that its between $300-$1500. 0 -
Nickel steel barrels were standard from August 1912 through 1931. I agree that a 26-inch Full choke barrel is very odd for a 12-gauge gun. 0 -
OK, I had the guy measure it again and he said that it's 27 & 1/2", so I would say that it's a 28" barrel and a full choke. Does that sound better now???

Better, but still not quite right. With the action closed on an empty chamber, run a cleaning rod down the bore until it bottoms out on the breech bolt face... mark and measure the rod where it intersects the muzzle entrance. Hopefully the length is 28-inches +/- 1/16".0
