9mm Largo/38ACP ???
Just purchased an Astra 1921 Model 400 in 9mm Largo cal. I have read that it is safe to use 38 ACP loads in this model and have also read the exact opposite. Please give any info and or experience regarding this question. The firearm is in good condition mechanically and it will only be used with 9mm Largo or 38 ACP rounds, not 38 Super, 9x19 etc; etc...Thanks

imo you can shoot the .38 acp in 9mm l pistols, the rim may be a little oversize in some pistols. 0 -
a lot of folks say you can shoot largo, 9mm luger and 38acp in them, others say NO NO NO!
i've shot 38 in mine but it sometimes doesn't eject/feed. something to do with the blowback design and pressure i guess. never tried parabellum thru it, yet.......

gustafsfan,
I got one back the '80's and have run .38ACP through it with no problems. Since .38 Super can be fired in that gun, check the slide
below the ejection port for a crack before shooting because you can never know what has been fired in it.
I fired hundreds of 9z19mm in mine BUT THEY WERE MY OWN DOWNLOADED
ROUNDS. ( will that avoid a response from you tsr1965 ?)
Be carefull taking the barrel bushing out cause recoil spring will propell same into ceiling if it slips past your fingers.
.38ACP can be reloaded for that gun with 9x19 dies when adjusted right0 -

DO NOT SHOOT 38 SUPER IN THESE PISTOLS [B)][xx(]They are alright with 38ACP, the Super if loaded way too hot [:0]0 -
Is .38 Auto still in production anywhere?
Easy to handload, but then so is 9mm Largo.0 -
At this point its easier to find 9mm Largo than .38ACP. With the latter there is always the danger that you are using .36 Super, because the pre-war super ammo sported the same headstamp. 0 -
I reload for .38 Super so it will not be a problem loading my own down to .38 ACP levels. Thanks to all for replies and info...."gustafsfan" 0 -
I load for my Astra 400 using 38 super brass, 125 .357" jhp bullets, and 5.5gr of Unique. 0 -
A good take down tool is a .50 cal case. Slides over the barrel. Push down, holds everything in place and gives you a nice handle while releasing the spring pressure. 0 -
The 9MM largo is a non-rimmed case and the 38 cases are semi rimmed. Just reduce the rim to correct diameter and load away. 0
