if you have percussion caps, you can shoot them just be prepared for some missfires, you may not have enough fire to light the pellets everytime, especially when dirty. go with loose powder either black powder or pyrodex, it will be much more reliable. If you switch to musket nipple you will get more flame from a musket cap. should cost you less than $10 to switch over.

TC sidelocks (including the Renegade) have what's called a patent breech; in short, the breechplug extends a ways into the barrel and is drilled out to form a partial powder chamber. Those bore-sized pellets won't go into this chamber but will stop where the breechplug meets the bore. As a result, you could experience misfires due to the gap between where the flame from the percussion cap enters that breech chamber and where the pellets stop.

"go with loose powder either black powder or pyrodex, it will be much more reliable." is really good advice. Good luck and good smoke.

On two TC Hawkens, which are sidelocks, but perhaps not the same configuration as the Renegade, I have replaced the #11 nipples with musket nipples and had no misfires with Pyrodex or 777. Just sayin' it might be worth a try.

We use pellets in the Thompson Center firestorms with no troubles at all, very few miss fires if any. They do have a cone shaped breech plug which might be the difference.
