What did you ever find out about the missfire when taking the safety off? I had one go off one time and never knew if I hit the trigger or really what happened, and now am suspecting something like this midght have been responsible? 0 -
The "gunsmith" filed the sear down to an unsafe level. Push the safety forward...fired. Only 3 times, but scary. After the other guy put in the new sear...didn't happen again, just the trigger was horrible. So, adjusted it...and it's pretty good now. Just needs a little fine tuning. 0 -
Huntbuc,
Welcome to the GB forums
I would NOT use power tools on the contact parts of the trigger. Too much chance for uneven surfaces &/or rounded edges as a result.
First, odds are the problem is more from improper lubes causing sticky or gummie contact surfaces. With the action removed from the wood, clean thoroughly with solvent (aresol spray 'brake cleaner' works well) & compressed air. Inspect trigger parts with a magnifying glass for wear or breakage plus any foreign material remaining. If honing or polishing are needed, you should see signs of an odd wear pattern. When clean, relube with a light gun oil such as Rem Oil or Outer's.
If roughness or burrs are causing the trouble, light honing (with a fine oil stone) by hand should be all that's required.
Good luck, & remember "measure (inspect) twice, cut once".

I will definitely give that a try. I will wait before I get out the "power tools". A good cleaning and some fresh lube may just do the trick. Thanks Jim... 0
