Browning 308
I have found a Browning A-bolt 308 synthetic in very good condition for sale for $450. the barrel has been shortened to 18 inches. what effect will this have on the accuracy and is this a good price.

That should have no theoretical effect on accuracy. It will be detrimental to overall performance. >308 needs a bit longer barrel for optimum speed.-Mike 0 -
mr7176,
Welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.com.
I would walk away from that. You should be able to find one that is unadultered for that kind of $$. The effect on accuracy will be determined by who done the shortening job, and how well the barrel was crowned. Since I personally cannot determine the quality of the work done, I would pass on it.

Thirds on the pass scenario. I don't even like "20 barrels for their loss of velocity in the 308, and the "18 would make it even LESS desireable for me. Excellent question would be WHY was it taken to "18? Damaged crown, bent barrel, attempt at a super sneaky urban tactical rifle? Who knows. Should be able to get one untouched for that kind of money. Only exception to the above?...if it was made by Baer, McMillen, etc...but most of those guys don't build off a Browning action anyway. 0
