It should fit, but as to where the dust cover comes to on the 5" barrel is a guess untill you compare them.
    Look at a 5" 1911 and see.

The frame dustcover and rails are the same for 5" and 6" guns.

Whether any particular replacement slide will fit on your individual frame is another question. You can try but be prepared to consult a gunsmith. Or just get Springfield to put on a new slide and barrel.

    Thank you for your replies.

I want the Caspian Slide because you can order what kind of serrations, what kind of top, and whether you want the sight cutouts, which I do not want.

Unfortunately I can't do this with Springfield. Either way, the slide will probably have to be fitted by a gunsmith.

Wait a minute unless they just changed the rules a 6 inch is legal in NRA MATCHES just not in a CMP/DCM match what page and section do you read a 6 inch is not legal [?][?] I shot a 6 inch for years with Iron sights but then went back to 5 inch slides one with a 6 inch barrel and red dot sight. Pictures to follow. The 6 inch slide was just slightly too heavy with red dot mounted on the slide. ,box3.JPG

This is my N.R.A. pistol box Two 6inch Karts and Two 45 Wad Guns .One 5 inch barrel and one 6 inchbox1.JPG

+1 for Perry. I use a Clark long slide with optics, gun came to me with iron sights and was used at Camp Perry in the NRA matches. Clark also offers the S&W 41 with a 6" barrel for Bullseye shooting.

I guess I'll have to read the rules again, but have been using this in major matches (not that I "should be" shooting in these with my low scores)for several years, including Camp Perry.

Please advise what section you are reading.

Just looked up the rules as of 2010, states:

barrel length, including cylinders, not more than 10 inches, trigger pull for revolvers not less than 2 1/2 points, .45
caliber semi-automatic pistol trigger pull not less than 3 1/2 pounds. Any sights, including telescopic, are permitted
with the exception of those sights that project an image on the target. Open sights may be adjustable but not over
10 inches apart measured from the apex of the rear sight to the apex of the front sight. Any sighting device
programmed to activate the firing mechanism is prohibited. All standard safety features of guns must operate
    properly.

So I don't see where the problem is.

    Best of luck

I am a newb to Bullseye, but it was my understanding from reading this regarding the service pistol qual...

3.l (a) Service Pistol - U.S. Pistol, caliber .45 M1911 or M1911A1 or the same type and caliber of commercially manufactured pistol. The pistol must be equipped with the standard issue or similar commercially-procured stocks or other comparable design of grips which interferes with no functional or maintenance features of the pistol, is functionally identical for right or left hand use. is not more than 1 inches in thickness between right and left side extremities as installed, includes no thumb rest or finger channels, and would not prevent holstering in the standard service holster. Trigger pull must be not less than 4 pounds. The pistol must be equipped with open sights. The front sight must be non-adjustable. The pistol may be equipped with an adjustable rear sight with open U or rectangular notch, the distance between sights measuring not more than 7.25 inches from the apex of the front sight to the apex of the rear sight. The forestrap of the grip may be checkered. The mainspring housing may be either the flat or arched type. Trigger shoes may be used. Trigger stops. internal or external, are acceptable. Otherwise, external alterations or additions to the arm will not be allowed. The internal parts of the pistol may be specially fitted and include alterations which will improve the functioning and accuracy of the arm, provided such alterations in no way interfere with the proper functioning of the safety devices as manufactured. All standard safety features of the pistol must operate properly. It is the competitors responsibility to have his pistol checked prior to the firing of the match.

Hello Service pistol matches are run by the C.M.P. not the NRA . You can use a CMP Legal pistol in NRA matches in both the CENTER-FIRE stage and the 45 stage. However for SERVICE PISTOL you can not use a 1911 Pistol with 5inch barrel 4inch or 6 inch If it does not meet CMP rules. It can not have beaver-tail grip safety or red dot sights or any other modifications not allowed by the CMP. You would be well served to get a CURRENT rule book for both the NRA and CMP. both matches are shot on same size targets and Both are shot standing and shooting one handed. But You can only shoot 4 CMP matches a year with one of those 4 at the National Matches at CAMP PERRY. I run both types of matches as well as coach & mentor Bulls-Eye shooters feel free to double click on my user name and send me a personal email I have been shooting Bulls Eye for many years for many years and may be able to answer many of your questions. cheers Karl AKA Perry Shooter

The 3.1 rule for "service pistol" matches are as described above by Perry Shooter. One addition, they are generally referred to as "Hardball Match" guns.

I have the luxury of shooting with several Civilian champions from the 50-60's plus a few very good gunsmiths, but I have never found anyone more knowledgeable about Bullseye then Perry Shooter. He knows the history, guns, and methods for this sport. Email him and I'm sure he will give you all the info.

(Now if we could only get him to consider the M9 for hardball)

You can get one 1911 receiver to work for both NRA and CMP, but most use two different guns.

    Best of luck
