Military Casings - All Brass?
Are the primer cup and anvil in military casings brass? Interested in current standard small arms ammunition, up to and including .50 BMG. Thanks!

We're having a breakdown in communication here. In ammo with Boxer primers the primer cup and anvil are part of the primer assembly. They are completely separate from the cartridge case. But are a interference fit in the primer pocket of the cartridge case.
In Berdan primed ammo the anvil is integral with the cartridge case, the separate primer cup is placed on top of it during the manufacturing process.0 -
Most anvils are not brass, some cups are brass. SO NO you can NOT claim them as #1 brass scrape at the metal recyclers[:D]. 0 -
If you are planing to make a big buy from Gov. surplus forget it as they will sell for more than scrap and they wont bring full scrap brass price at the scrap buyer because of the primer,if you can find a dealer that will take them, alot wont because they are afraid of a loaded round getting into the smelter. Its happened with a bad outcome. 0 -
Thanks guys! babun had it right, 96,300 lbs of casings all "demilled" so they can't be reloaded. Some in bins that need to be emptied, some in large wooden boxes that need to be hauled as is. Still some money to be made there, but I think I'm not going to play with it. 0 -
Ok, the bidding ended on the surplus brass. It ended up selling for $202,000.00!!!! There was a $10,000 deposit required to bid also. Does anybody have any idea why it would go for so much? The best brass price I could find is 1.80 a pound. 0 -
The price here is not the same else where in the world. Countries that are starving for raw materials will pay more. Point in case... my GF sells on ebay common cotton cloth, scrapes she buys at yard sales for usually 10 cents a square yard. Almost all of her buyers are from Japan. {at a price of $3 per yard !!!}.
