Winchester Model 12 serial # question

Hi - I have a model 12 12g. skeet. It has the serial # stamped on the bottom of receiver but not on the magazine. I have seen many other model 12's and they all have the serial # duplicated. The gun appears all original and does not appear to have ever had the forend taken off.
Any thoughts?

  Sounds like the reciever extension was replaced. Or possibly the entire barrel assembly was ordered thru winchester. Not uncommon.
