  I think these were made for a relatively limited period of time, and all of them were the 617-2 variant.
  
  So if the gun you are looking at is NOT a 617-2, you should be OK.
  
  I'd imagine the serial number range of these is in the Supica Smith book, so you could check there if there was a question.

  The aluminum cylinder was dropped because of perceived low sales, not because of a durability problem. If it were me, I'd be tickled if I found one; they have got to be rare.
