...........I found it myself using one of the links in the "sticky" guidelines above!! The database shows 1945.
Thanks!0 -
You can find more information from the barrel #. It may have its own # and year. 0 -
Your receiver is of early-mid 1945 production. Perhaps June, if I can nail it down.
The date on the barrel is a plus if it closely matches the manufacture date of the receiver.
Barrels had their own dating system. Many a re-furb M1 will have barrels dated years later than when the gun first left the factory. Best, Joe0 -
where do I locate the barrel information? 0 -
Lock the slide back; write down everything you see on the side of the barrel, including numbers & symbols.
Neal
EDIT: S-A on the barrel stands for Springfield Armory, followed by month & year of manufacture.0 -
OK, here are some photos....what do they tell us??

Thanks again for your time and interest in helping me!0 -
This piece was purchased by my late brother-in-law more than 15 years ago thru the CMP. Would this add anything to the value?
That should be the original barrel and for a WWII M1 that is not very common
Documented CMP rifles will bring a small premium but you'll need to have the CMP issued Certificate of Authenticity to prove it came from the CMP. M1s are plentiful on the resale market and since the CMP is still selling M1s (in various grades and prices) each rifle must stand on it's own merits. An original barrel on a WWII M1 is a decided plus and if the barrel is nice shape, even more so.0 -
Very nice piece!!! Especially with original era barrel. Are there any stampings (cartouches) in the wooden stock on left side below the receiver? How about a P on the inside of the "pistol" grip? Pictures of these if there? 0 -
I just checked...there appear to be no mrking or stampings on the stock at all. 0
