Smith not making metal pistols?
I did a search first and found nothing on this topic. If it has been covered, accept my apologies and ignore the post. I received my October issue of Gun Test late (I've had to talk to the Post Master about why my gun related magazines don't arrive or arrive sliced up) and they said Smith no longer manufactures metal pistols only their polymer line. Can anyone tell me when this happened and or why? I figured it had to do with demand and cost of production but, then again, they are making retro-revolvers, why not keep these?

Smith & Wesson has a website that shows all models currently being made.

It is sadly true that some corperate bean counter has also corrupted S&W's way of thinking. They have discontinued the 3rd generation metal framed semi-automatic pistols. There is the 952, and 945 available thru their custom shop, and the 1911 line, along with their 22 line, and the Model 41. The rest is the M&P line, Sigma line, and the Walther line. If you want one of the metal frames, you had better hit the auction side NOW, as they are going fast.

>>Smith not making metal pistols?
To be clear, EVERY one of Smith and Wesson's pistols has metal in it!
Smith is also making and selling lots of all steel 1911 style pistols in various configurations. The famous Smith match .22LR model 41 is all steel and still in production, and so are a few target centerfire models like the 952 and 945.
What has happened is that Smith wasn't selling that many of its "number series" autos, and my understanding is that they've been discontinued.
Smith is concentrating on polymer framed guns like its M&P instead.
But there are still a gazillion of the older metal frame Smiths out there, if you want to buy one.0 -
I sure hope someday the market goes up as I bought one here recently.. If not I can shoot it. 0 -

Sounds like my old friend Smith is going the way of the wind. 0 -
Plastic frames, laser etched markings, and integral key locks to disable the gun from firing. NOT FOR ME! 0
