    My eleven year old son will be hunting this fall and I want to get him a 250 savage. I have seen that Dakota arms has a youth 250 savage but they are a bit expensive at over 2000.00. Does anybody have another source?

    i know its supposed to come apart to fit in small case or to put a 410 barrel on it but it was left to me by a good friend( aka) stepfather and has been together ive seen it in 2 pieces at his house but he never showed how it was took down

    It has to be a takedown model. Do you know what model 1899 or 99 you have?

    if you savage is a brake down model it will have a thumb button on the bottom side of the forearm,it should slide forward and backward to release the forearm. then with the lever in the open position the barrel should unscrew. some of these old guns that havent been apart for a long time might need to be put in a vise. be careful.
