The Savage 23's were neat little guns, and really the last of the hand made/fitted small bore guns made by Savage. The later 40's, 45's and 340/840 series are nice inexpensive (I call them Truck guns) shooters but do not exibit the earlier fit and finish of guns like the 23's. I would also agree with Mike that $600 is a take it and run scenario, but do a search on the auction side and see what they have gone for. The 32-20, Hornet and 25-20's are still fairly highly sought after in high condition. I would like to see pictures but if in excellent (95% or better) condition and unaltered IN ANY WAY, I would happily pay $450 to $500. Having said that, yeah, I would be happy with $600 as that is top dollar in todays market.

I have two Savage Sporters. Good shooting little rifles. In really good condition they sell on the auction side for about $350 or so. Make sure the rifle has a magazine. These get expensive if you have to buy one. There are two different style magazines. They don't interchange. I believe the ammo is about $35.00 per box, if you can find it. Ed

Thats why I reload the stuff...and I get a little more accuracy besides.

Bill, I have a 25-20 and a 32-20. They both have excellent bores, I reload for them. Neither is much to look at from the outside, but shoot great. Mine are the older model as they use the two tone magazine with the serrated sides. Ed

Hi Ed; I ask because the 22's in really nice shape, either A or AA are selling in the $300 range. I found one 25-20 in fair condition with a bunch of holes drilled in it going for about $300, and a few other 25-20's and a single 32-20 ...all were correct and nice and concencus seemed to be around $500 +. They hold better value than the 22's and nice ones still get good $'s! Hold on to the ones you have...eventually, even if they are not safe queens, they will appreciate. Only one I have is a D model with a nice old J D Lischert and outside mounts. Have about every 340 they made, but only the one 23 any more!. Last of the well made, hand fit Savage rifles IMHO.
