I have an ar15 with both a .223 and .45acp upper. The 45acp upper is new and I reload 45acp. Therefore, I want to reuse the spent brass.
Anyone have experience with ar15 brass catchers as sold by Cabelas, Midway, Natchez, etc?
Just wonder if they work well, sort of or not at all. My questions come from wondering if the "mesh net" interferes with the ejection of the spent brass???

Rock River Arms, DPMS and Stag are good brands - visit their web site and browse. Lots to look at, different price points too.

Any of the AR manufacturers are good the only ones to stay away from are Blackthorne, Vulcan and Hesse. Since it's your first AR you might also want to stay away from any that your brother-in laws, best friends second cousins, uncles nephew that he works with built. Otherwise just do a computer search find the gun that closely resembles the one you want with the features that you and buy it. Another good place to check them out is at gun shows. Just take your time and research. You will get a lot of different suggestions as what to buy here. There pretty much all the same.

I would recommend that you get a flat topped receiver.

The flat top will allow you to easily add optics to the rifle down the line if you decide to.

Rock River, Bushmaster, Colt, Armalite, DPMS, etc. all make good rifles.

I suggest that you use the SEARCH feature on this forum to look for the word "AR"; you can probably spend a couple of hours reading all we have said on the subject. That should help you understand the basic things you want to look for.

The basic configurations are: "service rifle", "rapid entry", & "varmint". Unless your coyotes come when you whistle, I would think that you need a varmint rifle (full length heavy barrel, fixed stock, removable carry handle). Most folks put the 4 mounting rail on a rapid entry type rifle.

The nice thing about AR's is that you can get exactly what you want from the factory. The bad thing is, what you want will probably change.
