Winchester 38 caliber rifle value

I have the above gun and am looking for approximate value. this site has helped me in the past but needed pictures that I could not figure out how to post. this is the serial number of the gun 176291B
it has an octagonal barrel and a 4 piece cleaning rod in the butt end of the stock. Thanks in advance for your help, this is truely and awesome site. Have meet some "real people" on this site.

    Once again, it would be great to have pictures, and you can e-mail them to me if you wish, and I will post them for you.

    It sounds like you quite possibly have an 1873 Winchester, in 38 W.C.F., same as 38-40. The value depends on which model you have, and the condition of which it is in.

    To say that you have the cleaning rod, is a testiment in itself it it is an original. Not too many are found these days.

    The octagon barrel and 4-piece cleaning rod suggest that you have a Sporting Rifle with a 24-inch long barrel. The serial number tells me that it is an 1885 vintage gun. Pictures are need to say much more.
