There are collectors for all things Ortgies, but the pistols attract far more interest than the rifles and shotguns. Condition of the long guns is far more critical to value than the handguns and since the majority of the rifles were used heavily, finding a really nice clean Ortgies rifle is not as easy as finding a nice looking Ortgies pistol. What sort of condition is it in and some photos would be helpful.

Even in excellent condition a Ortgies single shot .22 wouldn't be a big buck item. Inexpensive European "garden gun" type .22's from the 20's, don't have much of a following/demand from U.S. collectors, unfortunately. IMHO for the money you could get out of it even in excellent condition, wouldn't compare to it's value to the family as something passed down from your Grandfather.

I really don't intend to get rid of because of being a family hand-me-down. I was just wondering if its a collectable because I let my grandson shoot it. It is very accurate for being such a simple design. We shoot bottle caps just like my Mother & Dad did when they were young. My father told me my grandfather brought it over from Germany when he came to this country.

By all means use it, that is why it was built, and you will not degrade its value with just a little care.
