Colt COMMANDER Gold Cup
I am looking for a Colt Gold Cup Commander and am trying to sort out how to tell years of production, serial numbers, and Series information.
I've seen serial numbers GCCxxx and xxxGCC. My Blue Book only lists Series 80 GC Commanders with no serial number data. Online forum posts talk about two productions of 500 Blue and 500 Stainless in the 90's.
My questions are:
How many GCC's did Colt make and what years?
What serial number ranges, roll marks (Custom Edition?, Series 80?, Commander?) and grips did they have (wood or wrap around rubber)?
Do they have the firing pin block?
All help appreciated.
Mike

I have been looking for one as well. apparently there are two varieties one being a normal run the the other being a special edition.
the regular version came with standard wraparound rubber grips and the other is script engraved with special edidtion (one just sold on GB) that was the special edition and it had wood grips it had the GCC suffix and was blue. it was like colts enhanced models which only provides a slelotonized hammer over a typical gold cup.
I think the internet will end up being your best resourse for production numbers but they are rare...if you find two, can you let me know?
I saw one in puyallup last show. god it was my dream gun; special edition in bright stainless steel with the factory wood case a letter from colt and everything in perfect condidtion. the guy wanted 4400 for it.0 -
Thanks Scott.
The GB auction prompted my question.
I saw another GCC last weekend at a gunshow. It was stainless and had Pachmayr wrap around grips with a Colt logo and medallion. The grips were different than an online photo of another GCC. Don't have my notes here, but think it was a GCC7xx serial number, not 7xxGCC.
