winchester 86 deluxe short rifle
Ok more questions. I'm going to be listing some winchesters on GB. One is an 1886 with letter. The letter states serial #1382xx rifle, .33wcf,20 inch round barrel, plain trigger, plain checkerd stock with pistolgrip, full mag, shotgun butt with rubber buttplate, received in warehouse 10-12-1906. The actual rifle matches letter perfectly except it has a two thirds mag. There is no evidence of it ever having a full mag. Is it possible the cody letter is incorrect? Will have pictures this weekend as the rifle is at my fathers house. Bert I am having a difficult time posting pictures as I do not have a computer or digital camera anymore(thank you ex-wife) so I am doing this all on my blackberry. I registered at hunt 101 and am trying to figure out how to use it with the blackberry. It would be much easier to e-mail them to you if possible. The rifle is definitely a genuine short rifle, just concerned the letter states full mag, and rifle has 2/3 mag. Like I said I am heading up hunting friday, will take pictures of gun and letter. Also have some other winchesters you may be interested in documenting for your study.; ; Bert let me know If you got the pictures and if you need more, u can post them if you want.

The standard barrel length for a 33 WCF Rifle was 24-inches. It is extremely rare to find one in any other barrel length. I would like to see a copy of the factory letter, and the rifle itself.
Edit: Please send pictures to me at Win1885@msn.com0 -
Yeah, I have never seen nor heard of a 20 inch barrel on a '86. It must look kind of weird. Please post a pix. 0 -
My advice is to purchase an inexpensive computer and digital camera off of {elsewhere}. You are selling expensive and wonderful pieces of merchandise and you will be asked for extensive pictures if you want to get the full price for your guns. You can find computers for under 100 and cameras for under 25.00.
The Blackberry route may work but somebody you know may have a cheap computer that will work.0 -
You are absolutley right about the computer and camera. The problem is my kids and these guns are about all I managed to hang onto through a nasty divorce. Money is very tight, and I'm not looking for sympathy just understanding. I will have this minor inconvience resolved shortley and become a full citizen again (with a computer and camera). Thanks for your patience. 0 -
This is what I can tell you at this point... if it truly letters with a factory 20-inch barrel, it will have considerable collector interest (value) if the gun is in decent condition. 0
