yes, of course your right J.STEVENS 0 -
This company has been in business from civil war times to far into the twentieth century. Barrel stamps changed at least 3 Times 1864-1886 "J.STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS MASS. PAT.SEPT.1864 From 1886-1916
J.STEVENS A & T CO./CHICOPEE FALLS.MASS USA IN TWO LINES FROM 1916-1942 J.STEVENS ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS MASS.USA This might help you date your firearm J Stevens was one of the largest makers of fire arm including some HIGH Grade Rifles before 1915 they were bought out by Savage arms 1920. I cant find any Stevens double barreled side by side shot guns with hammers. they made a over under model 240 with hammers and many models of hammerless double barrel shot guns. Pictures would give us a better chance to tell you what you have and it's value.
EDITThanks slumlord I should have checked the auction I could not find in guntraders guide or blue book or even Flayderman's0 -

Actually they made several models in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Most common one I see it the model 235. Should be marked on the bottom of the frame. Various options. Damascus and fluid barrels offered. Higher end engraved guns were available. Most were basic working guns. Used to be cheap. Nice ones are getting hard to find. Looking for 16 guage myself. Check sold auctions. Nice 235 16 guage just sold recently. I think around $350 but you should check. 0 -
