I realise there are significant differences between the 41's and G43's, but are the magazines even remotely close to one another? If so, the g43 parts gotta be cheaper than the 41 parts.

    Thanks gentleman.
I should have mentioned I don't know a thing about old military rifles. We recently inherited it.
Not sure what a bar magazine is.

Someone was kind enough to e-mail me the photo below. You can see the G41(M) follower and spring and what it looks like. Before I got this photo I took a shot at the K98 and you can see the difference.

If a bar magazine or G3 follower are the same as the G41 (M) I could be in business if they are available.

Thanks again for your speedy response.

    bar is B.rowning A.utomatic R.ifle. B.A.R.

I don't think you are going to find anything that fits just as it sits. If functionality is more important than looks, a REAL gunsmith should be able to manufacture a follower to do the job (and perhaps copy an original if you can borrow one or get detailed schematics).

I could even recommend someone who I know has made followers before, albeit not for the G41. Email me at endofwork@netzero.net if you would like his contact info. No promises but worth a call to him to chat.

Since you are not overly familiar with mil-surp guns...the G41 is extreemly valuable as is the later g43 rifle. Original G41's can run into the many thousands of dollars, while the later, more plentiful G43 is still worth as much as $2k in great condition without cracks to the reciever. The G41(M) and G41(W) are both approaching the holy grail of German WWII rifle collectors.

Thanks for the info men. I would LOVE to put this back into original condition, but missing a few parts. Would you recomened trying this or leaving "As Is"?
It seems as if this IS "the Holy Grail" then ?

Condition IS everything, even with one this rare. The stock has been duffel cut, so it pretty well proves it to be a WWII vet bring back gun; always a great sign as there will be no import marks on it either. Sadly, the stock fragment is missing, so you need to get that fixed. The 41's used a version of the Danish "Bang operating system" (Bang is a person, not a verb here) whereby the gas from the barrel tap was piped into a cup around the end of the barrel which in turn operated a long actuating rod to cycle the action.. sort of a dead end developmentally, but interesting nonetheless.

I would get it put back together and keep it. Parts WILL be hard to find, and expensive when found. The 41(M) was made in slightly lower numbers than the 41(W) and was less successful, so always commands a slightly higher price. By the time you get this one restored, it will be a financial wash, but you will have an operable example of one of the rarest semi-auto's on issue to any army in the war. Congrats on finding the project grail...it's not the grail yet, but can be!
