my neighbor borrowed $2oo dollars and gave me his gun to keep if he didn't pay back the money in 1 week. that was 3 months ago. i was told it is worth $400. someone else said $600. it's a smith & wesson 357 magnum, model 28 highway patrolman. serial# s194293 from the end of the cylinder to end of barrel it measures 4 inches. whats the best route to take to get top dollar for it. 0 -
GOLFER73,
Hello, and welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.com.
I think we need to see several well lit pictures, up close, and in good focus to be able to evaluate it. Use the Macro setting on your camera when taking the pictures. There is a sticky topic near the top of the Experts forum, that describes how to post photographs.

You will need to use a photohosting website such as photobucket, or hunt101, to post them.

There is no need to post your question in three separate threads. One thread is sufficient. We need clear, closeup pictures in order to evaluate your Colt. 0 -
Without more of a description and pictures; 100-1000 USD or more depending on specifics. 0 -
I looked up the word "pristine" to try to see exactly what it might mean in percentage of original finish, which is what is now most often used in describing a gun's condition. My dictionary gave the definition as 1. Having the purity of it's original state and 2. UNSPOILED. Using these definitions I would say the gun was original configuration with 95% or better finish.
My 2009 Blue Book gives the value of a 95% Pre-WWII National Match of $7,000.00 if it has fixed sights. With adjustable sights, $8,000.00.
Many are very critical of Blue Book values and prices of collector firearms are not as high as they once were. This is the best I can suggest with the information you provided.0 -
IF the pistol is one in the AD then let me voice my opinion. The non factory checkering of the front strap MAY enhance the operation when it comes to shooting the pistol .But will really KILL the value for a SERIOUS Collector. Yes Cherry's fine guns in Greensboro N.C. is a very good shop But again the "REST OF THE STORY" they used to have auctions twice a year very nice selection of nice guns. But the Appraised values were PIE in the SKY and They stopped running auction at least 5 years ago because most guns that did not have reserves never came close to CHERRY'S appraised value. now they only sell via the internet catalog and no longer have a store that is open to the public. What does that tell you[?][?][:(][:(]. YMMV 0 -
perry nailed it. the gun's not original with the checkering. and i think the grips are suspect as well. someone will buy into the hype and pay way too much for that gun.
