    Messing with the 1100 trigger is not a good idea for what you'll gain out of it.
    The aftermarket trigger is your best bet.....

    Yes to cutting small amounts of spring or installing lighter one. Polishing sear can result in dangerous sear-trigger engagement and is irreversible. A trigger pull of 3 to 4 lbs is the minimum for safe shotgun use. Use a trigger pull gauge and proceed slowly.

    I will second mrbruce's suggestion. I do believe that Timney makes or used to make a drop in trigger assembly for an 1100. But by any means, take it to a reputable gunsmith. This is no place for the beginner to start his career. You can't bring back an AD.
