357 Maximum
Came across this in a auction and the guy said they are stamped 357 Max but they don't look like any 357 Max I have seen.
Here is his response:Sorry about the quality of my photos. These cartridges are definitely rimmed.
Using my cheap-o plastic caliper, the rim has a diameter of approx. 10mm and the remainder of the brass shell has a diameter of approx. 9.1mm
The shell has the following headstamp "R-P 357 REM MAX"

Recently I took a T/C Contender with a 357 Maximum bbl. on trade can any one tell me anything about this round? I do not have any info about it. The previous owner said it has ballistics close to a 44 mag. is this true? Was $380.00 a good deal for this gun 99 loaded shells and 36 empties, he also said the 36 empties are all this gun was shot. Thanks for any replies 0 -
They don't look like MY .357 Maximums (that I use to make .38-44 S&W Target cases.)
They appear to have been turned into a semi-rimmed head type.
I wonder what the case length is.
I think they have been reformed for .351 Winchester Self Loader, model of 1907.0 -
I would agree with Hawk: .351 WSL. 0 -
The one on the right looks like extractor groove is less then the left & middle one . maybe all are modified cases. that started as 357 Max. Hawk Carse sounds like you may have a S&W No.3 target revolver. I am sending you a email to your members list address we need to talk. 0 -
Below is a picture of a .357 Maximum case it has a rim just like a .357 Magnum it's just longer.I have a 10" Thompson Contender .357 Maximum barrel and I had a Ruger Blackhawk .357 Maximum.Somebody is slightly confused? [:)]

I'll agree, home-made .351 WSL cases. 0 -
Do you see what it says on the case? .357 Maximum made by Federal F.C. stands for Federal Cartridge Co.I have over 100 that I bought years ago.[:)]
Please excuse the lousy picture, this one of them I reloaded.

Those are converted cases, most likely by "Old Western Scrounger". The owner needs to find someone with a model 1907 Winchester (the only rifle that uses the 351 WSL).
As a side note, the WSL series is a SEMI-RIMMED round.
I have a box of 35 WSL made from 357 Mag brass0 -
Glad I looked over the other posts, before replying. I have a 351 WSL, and it does appear to mimmick the case fairly well. I would not buy these to shoot in a 357 Remington Maximum.
