Winchester 69a FULL STOCK, MANNLICHER, INTL???????
Anyone who can be of assistance....I was at the gunshow and had a gentleman bring me a Winny 69a with a MANNLICHER/ INTL style full stock!!!!!
First off let me tell you I know a Winchester gun when I see it. I know the straight gran, slightly stained finish Winchester uses.I know the proof marks and where they should be, and when. I know unrestored , original metal finish in 98%, I know Winchesters wood choices from their lowest models to their exhibition grades,I know the engraving patterns/grades accordingly......BUT I DON'T KNOW THIS GUN!!!!!
It is a 69a with pristine metal, straght bolt handle(not curved), normal -early 69a straight grained wood with typical Winchester finish.....IN A FRIEKING MANNLICHER STOCK????This thing looks ALL ORIGINAL right down to the wood finish! I need some help....anyone's assistance would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

There are many skilled wood and metal workers in just about every small town in the US and other places. When you consider all the local gunsmiths in the colonial times who made lock stock and barrel guns on primitive tooling in the 1700 and 1800's it would be no problem to come up with what you saw. Just the same, when you mess with a factory gun you're lucky to get anymore $$$ out of it than if you left it alone. (I couldn't do it but I know lots of guys who could) 0 -
IT would have been in my gun safe right now if I had seen it and price ANYWHERE close to being affordable. 0 -
Without rock solid proof that Winchester made that stock, it should be considered an aftermarket add-on.
There is nothing in any of the literature that I have that indicates that Winchester ever made a Mannlicher style full stock for the Model 69/69A.0 -
I once greatly admired a Remington with Mannlicher stock.
But the vendor was honest about it and even told me who made it.
I doubt Winchester was using any funny furrin styles when the 69a was in production, even though they did a few Model 70s much later on.0
