How Do I measure the barrel of a revolver?
How Do I measure the barrel of a revolver? Do I measure from the cylinder to the tip, or from the frame[?][:)][?]

Measure from the front of the cyl to the muzzle. 0 -

Thanks, but I guess I'm still not getting it. If I measure from the cylinder to the tip I get 5 1/2, or from the frame 4 5/8. It's a Ruger Vaquero, and it comes in both barrel lengths. I'm just not sure I'm measuring right. Is it a big difference? 0 -
If it is 4&5/8 the ejector rod will be flush with the end of the barrel. 0 -
Great, thanks. Is that how you measure all revolvers? What about semi-autos? 0 -
On semi autos, make sure it is unloaded; close the slide; insert a wooden dowell into the barrel til it touches the slide; mark the dowell even with the muzzle; measure the part of the dowell that was inside the barrel. That will be the barrel length. 0 -
Copy that, sounds easy. Thanks[:X] 0 -
Measure from one end of the barrel to the other. The barrel will stick slightly into the opening for the cylinder in the frame. 0 -

IF the chamber is part of the barrel (rifles, shotguns, single shot and self loading handguns) than it's from the face of the closed breachface (bolt)
IF the chamber is separate from the barrel (IE revolvers be they handguns, rifles or shotguns) than you measure the full length of the barrel only0 -
"Measure from the front of the cyl to the muzzle.".....+1...........unless you live in Wisconsin, for hunting purposes you measure "from the firing pin to the end of the barrel".[:D] 0
