    Firing Pin Protrusion:

    As a general rule, centerfire rifles and handguns usually measure between .050" and .060". Shotguns are a little longer at .055" to .065". Rimfire guns usually fall into the .028" to .035" range. For other firearms, the correct amount may be longer or shorter depending on the make and model.

    You can check Kuhnhausen to see if there is an absolute spec but this is the guideline used most frequently.

    Think ball point not cone point. Primed only cases make for safe testing, (look up protuding primer from no case setback) and its way easier to take off metal than it is to put it back on. While you are there check the hole in bolt and firing pin fit.
