Jap T 38 6.5mm firing pin dimension question
I have a new firing pin in my T38 6.5mm rifle. I am wanting to know what the firing pin dimension is from the end of the pin tip and the bolt face when the pin is in the firing position. So, to measure it the safety knob would have to be removed to position the pin in the firing position. Can anyone out there let me know? I do not want to have a dimension issue where I puncture a primer if the tolerances are wrong. Thanks in advance.

A1BigTuna,
Firing Pin Protrusion:
As a general rule, centerfire rifles and handguns usually measure between .050" and .060". Shotguns are a little longer at .055" to .065". Rimfire guns usually fall into the .028" to .035" range. For other firearms, the correct amount may be longer or shorter depending on the make and model.
You can check Kuhnhausen to see if there is an absolute spec but this is the guideline used most frequently.

Thanks very much, now I have something to measure against. 0 -
Think ball point not cone point. Primed only cases make for safe testing, (look up protuding primer from no case setback) and its way easier to take off metal than it is to put it back on. While you are there check the hole in bolt and firing pin fit. 0
