i search thru my H&R catalogs and could never find any barrel lengths other than 28 & 30 inches listed for the the 24 gauge model 1908 or the small frame model 1915. the early small frame model 1905 in 44 caliber were listed as 26 inches and that is a short as i could find for a shoulder fired single barrel shotgun.

early H&R single barrels with the letter A prefix to the serial number were manufactured sometime between about 1917 and about 1925.

The breech of my 24 gauge was re- bored or drilled in late 1930s to take a 20 gauge shell so maybe it was cut to remove the choke. It has a little extra recoil but it is a hot little 20gauge,comfortable to carry and an excellent shooter and good for longer shots. I don`t use slugs in it. barrel is still marked "24 ga choke" on top Thanks for info,,G
