Please tell me what you know about these rifles, as to over-all quality, fit, and finish. Is the price being asked on the auction side ($1,500 to $2,500+) reasonable. THX Keith

I think they are the best production rifle ever built, followed by Sako, and the Weatherby.

If I could get a very nice one in the caliber I wanted, then I would pay $1200-$1500 for one. Rifles aren't as easy to get rid of as handguns, so they tend to sit a long time. Unless you do a penny auction like Locust Fork does. I wish one would come up at a penny auction to see what they really would bring.

I used to have one in 22-250, and it was more accurate than the Remington 700 Heavy barrel rifle I had at the time, at least for the first five shots.

Manufactured by J. P. Sauer & Sohn, Germany '74-'85. Any reviews/prices you could find on that vintage Sauer rifle would probably apply. They were made in a few different grades, long action and short. A quick check on the auction side, smart search for completed auctions, might help with what has been paid and listing prices that received no bids.

I love mine. Its a 1976 7mag. The craftsmanship is amazing. If you appreciate guns for the mechanical art that they are, this is a fine example. Sorry this is not the best pic. If there is anything specific you want to see I can probably get the pic for ya

They Are extremely high quality. Colt was the exclusive US importer up until 1985 when SIGARMS took over and became the US importer but the fit and finish of the Colt Sauers, as well as the quality of the wood, is considered to be superior to the later SIGARMS rifles and Colt rifles typically command a premium.
