Measure the shoulder diameter of a empty case that chambers and one that dosn't after seating the bullet.

ARE YOU USING 7MM/06 DIES OR .280 REM. DIES? THE .280 HAS A LONGER SHOULDER LENGHT THAN THE 7MM/06. ALSO CHECK CASE LENGHT.

I have measure just about everything and it is the same except on one case I did get to chamber and the neck diameter was .002 less (.310 vs .312 on the ones that won;t fit.. Me thinks maybe the resizing has made the neck brass too thick? The neck size is still under the chamber dimensions by a mere .002 (.314)

And yes they are 7mm06 CH4D dies

If the brass will chamber before the slug is pressed home and not afterward, then it follows that is in some way the problem. Are you not pushing the bullet far enough into the case? If the bullet is too long for the rifling/throat then you might get what you describe. I'm thinking about thinking about long for caliber bullets like Barnes triple shoks and such....

The camming action of the bolt only amounts to a few thousandths so if you're getting the cartridge into the chamber that far it's probably not the neck thickness; could be it's maybe too long though. If your seating die is adjusted to where it might be trying to crimp a little on a bullet that isn't supposed to be crimped it could be putting a very slight bulge at the point of the shoulder that's not readily visible to the naked eye.

Tried seating them further intially but it didn't help. I know how long the throat is from the cerosafe so lack of throat like a k31 is not the problem. The bullets do seat very tightly so a bulge that I can't detect could be. I hate not being able to shoot this rifle.

Can you round up a few .270s to neck UP which will give thinner neck walls?

Might have to neck turn or ream '06 necked down.

Your chamber neck is tight, a .280 would be .3156" (Of course there is no SAAMI spec for 7mm06 but that is close.)

I second the notion that it sounds as though you are a few thousandths long on case overall length. As mentioned, the camming action is very short; I would assume either you have a very slight ripple near the very rear of the neck from sizing down , and or, the case has stretched very slightly after trimming and is beyond spec.

If I were you, I'd take the advice about necking up .270s and fireforming. I had the same problem with making 6.5/06 from 30/06 until I necked up 25/06.

I am almost certain now that it is the neck thickness. I pulled the bullets in the cases that wouldn't chamber. After pulling the bullets the cast neck shrunk down a few 1000ths and the brass chambered. I tried to neck up a 270 round this morning but didn't get enough lube on it and you guessed it, ripped the rim off. Now to get a broken case extractor from grafs.
It was not the case OAL. I know the max length from my chamber cast. It is nice to know how long your brass can get using the cast.
