Camouflage

I watched a man on tv camouflage a gun by laying a thin sheet of
some type of camo material in a vat of chemicals. He submerged the
gun part for a certain amount of time and the camo adhered to the parts. Can anyone tell me what this process is called.Thanks,cts1
